4 January 2009 No Comment

As you probable know, the first excuse that your home warranty company will use to deny your warranty claim is that you have not done proper maintenance on your dishwasher.  Follow the easy steps below to make sure that when the home warranty company sends a technician out to your home, that they can no easily claim improper maintenance.  You can also use these steps to prevent trouble with your dishwasher.

  1. Clean around the door of your dishwasher. Check for fallen food and debris buildup. Then check the seal to make sure there is no damage to the door seal.
  2. Replace damaged gaskets by removing them and taking a piece into the local home center. Contact the manufacturer if the home center does not carry your gasket. Soak the gasket in hot water to add flexibility and then install the new gasket, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Clear any food debris out of the drain in the dishwasher. Pull the leftovers out with your fingers or pull the whole drain out if it is removable. Clean the drain out and remove any forien objects. Clean the sprayer in vinegar to remove calcification build up.
  4. Prevent rust on the machine. Check for nicks in the machine and cover them with a plastic coating material or sealant. This prevents premature rusting of the dishwasher.  This is one of the first things that the home warranty service technician will look for.
  5. Pour vinegar and detergent into the machine and send it through a cleaning cycle. Do this when you notice that food debris is being left on the dishes.

Following these steps can help ensure that your home warranty company can not claim that you did not properly maintain your dishwasher.
